DEBATE: Who is responsible when technology decides for us?

2017-05-18

Reflection is neccesary if technology is going to contribute to the good society.  This is the message from Jessica Nihlén Fahlquist in NyTeknik this week.

Jessica Nihlén FahlquistAccording to Jessica Nihlén Fahlquist, we tend to view technological development in almost entirely positive terms. Technology improves efficiency. Moreover, technology not only makes our everyday lives easier, it also makes it more fun.

However, all technology is developed by people, and comes with both negative and positive consequences. According to Jessica Nihlén Fahlquist, this means we need to ask questions about technology and responsibility. Who has the ethical responsibility for technological developments? And in what way does this new technology affect how we divde that responsibility?
