Autonomous cars – how safe is safe enough?


Jessica Nihlén Fahlquist, Senior Lecturer in Medical Ethics at CRB, calls for ethical transparency of incident scenarios autonomous cars may face. She has immersed herself in ethical issues in relation to autonomous cars and artificial intelligence. 

It is impossible to build away the ethical aspect, Jessica Nihlén Fahlquist told reporters at  Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet. The people who develop technical solutions leave traces of themselves whether they try to or not. Technology is not value neutral. Experts recommend considering ethical aspects from the start. Technical solutions benefit from ethics not being an afterthought.
